The Genocide and Famine in the Ukraine took place in 1932-1933. the Ukrainian Famine is also known as Holodomor, meaning "death by hunger". Ten million Ukrainians were starved to death in 1932-1933.
The Communist Regime sought to eliminate any threat from Ukrainian nationalist, whom they feared had the potential to form a rebellion and to seek independence from the Soviet Union. The Ukraine population was dying at a rate of 25,000 a day. In Stalin's twisted mind, he was teaching Ukraine's independent farmers "a lesson they would not forget" for resisting collectivization, which meant giving up their land and livestock to the state. He saw it as a consequence of WWII. They were executed by firing squads, or sent to concentration camps. Twenty-five percent of the entire population of which at least three million were children.
The Kuluks were seen as a threat because they refused to give up their land. livestock, crops, and property. They were creating collective farm units to eliminate independent farm-holdings with was called or referred to as "dekulukization". People who attempted to aid the Kuluks were punished.
Desperation and extreme hunger even lead to cases of cannibalism and consequentially thousands were arrested for this act.
Other areas of the world were very aware of the affairs going on in the Ukraine, but they didn't interfere or do anything about it.
